Aromas of cool-climate spice with white pepper and cloves. Floral hints courtesy of the Viognier. The spiciness carries through to the palate and is complemented by black berry flavours. The Grenache contributes red berry fruit, fine tannins and a long finish.

Nestled between Elim and Cape Agulhas, 9km from the sea, lies Strandveld Vineyards, named after the rugged coastal belt spanning Africa’s southern tip. Its maritime climate, diverse soil, and severe winds shape unique terroir. In 2001, inspired by explorers like Bartholomeu Diaz, enthusiasts established the winery on a rundown farm near Cape Agulhas. Despite harsh conditions, they cultivated 80 hectares focusing on Sauvignon Blanc, Shiraz, and Pinot Noir, with smaller plots of Semillon, Viognier, Grenache, and Mourvedre. Today, the modern cellar produces distinctive wines reflecting the pioneering spirit of early sailors navigating these tempestuous seas.
