“Matured for 12 months, 90% in 500-litre barrels of which 10% were new, and 10% in amphorae. A later vintage and the nose is a little more exotic than usual with notes of lemon and orange to go with blossom plus hints of oatmeal and flinty reduction. The palate is not without depth although alcohol is just 12.7% – pure fruit and zesty acidity, the finish possessing a subtle pithy quality. Great definition and poise.” – Christian Eedes
Restless River is a unique winery located in the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley, characterized by its high altitude, proximity to the cold South Atlantic ocean, and distinctive ancient granite-based soils. The winery benefits from a cool maritime climate and decomposed granite soils, allowing the production of lighter, more elegant wines with a balance of texture, length, and complexity.
Craig, a passionate farmer and winemaker, along with Anne, who manages the business side, continue the legacy with some of the oldest Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay vines in the region, dating back to 1999. They also introduced Pinot Noir in 2013. Craig’s unconventional and sensory-driven approach reflects the pioneering spirit of his forefathers and adds a unique touch to the winemaking process.
