The Op Die Berg Pinot Noir 2017 by De Grendel is light ruby red with a pale brown rim. The aroma is that of cranberry, sour cherry, mushrooms and wet soil.

This Pinot Noir is medium-bodied and the palate delivers flavours of liquorice, perfume, spice and earthy mushrooms. The Op Die Berg Pinot Noir pairs well with most dishes. It is recommended to serve this Pinot Noir chilled and enjoy it with great company.

De Grendel is not just one of the oldest farms in Cape Town, it is the only vineyard in South Africa that is 350m above sea level and only seven kilometers from the ocean. The farm is a testament to the centuries-old history of the Graaff family.

De Grendel

De Grendel, meaning latch or lock in Dutch, is one of Cape Town’s oldest farms, stretching out over almost 330 hectares on the fynbos-covered slopes of Tygerberg Hill, North of Cape Town. Sir David Graaff first planted vines on De Grendel in 1999, almost 200 years after the first vines were destroyed. When Sir David died on 24 January 2015, his eldest son, Sir De Villiers, who inherited the baronetcy, was set to continue the proud farming tradition of his forefathers.
