Waterleliefontein In December 2012, Jo and Tessa Neser took over stewardship of a 46-hectare farm nestled on the Van der Stel Pass. Both trained as commercial lawyers, they share a deep-seated connection to the natural world, having grown up with fond memories of farms, flowers, and the veld. Jo’s love for wine took shape during his student years at the farm L’Avenir in Stellenbosch, where he transported grapes to Nederburg in a “bloupens” Bedford truck. This experience not only provided him with a stipend and accommodation but also nurtured his appreciation for wine. Inspired by a dam filled with indigenous blue water lilies on the property, they named their farm Waterleliefontein. In 2017, Jo and Tessa ventured into winemaking by planting vineyards comprising two hectares of Syrah and one hectare of Grenache Noir. Their inaugural Grenache Noir Syrah Blend from the 2019 vintage was released in 2022 to glowing reviews and quickly sold out. Building on this success, they released a Syrah Grenache Noir Blend from the 2020 vintage in 2023, which has received even higher praise. We enjoyed the current 2021 vintage even more!
