Wine Gems – Fryer’s Cove & Lubanzi

Fryer’s Cove

Fryer’s Cove is the only vineyard within the Bamboes Bay ward, which is also the smallest ward in South Africa. The vines of Fryer’s Cove dot the hillside 500 meters from where the cold ocean throws its breakers against a rocky shore. Fryer’s Cove wines have a distinct maritime flavour, hence their slogan ‘Forged of the earth, Tempered by the sea’.
This new Fryer’s Cove range has been released to make the wines of the Cape West Coast more accessible. The range consists of a Sauvignon Blanc, Chenin Blanc and Grenache Cinsault. These premium wines are made to reflect the rugged terroir and landscape of the Cape West Coast and come from a selection of vineyards surrounding Fryer’s Cove cellar. Their look and feel are closely associated with the Bamboes Bay range, but they are not so rare and are therefore more available for those who want the unmistakable Fryer’s Cove taste.

Lubanzi

Born in Cape Town as the brainchild of two young travelers, Charlie and Walker, on the hunt for adventure and an opportunity to make a difference in the world. Lubanzi is a collaborative enterprise – one with a story of community, of partnerships, and of the path less traveled. They are named for the wandering dog, Lubanzi, who followed them for 6 days and 160km during their trek across the Wild Coast, and who by some stroke of luck, brought this all to life.

Their wines hail from the rugged and iconic Swartland. The focus is on crafting unique, minimal intervention & fairly produced wines that punch far above their weight.
