Stellenzicht visited us last week and we tasted through their wines. Their enthusiasm for their farm and wine was infectious and this shone through in their excellent wines.
It is clear that Stellenzicht went through a bit of a rebirth in the last couple of years. The dynamic, young and passionate team of winemaker L’re Burger and viticulturist Nico Nortje behind the wine and Nina Barkhuizen heading up sales and marketing will surely bring Stellenzicht to new heights.
In honouring their history, and existing soils, they spent a great deal of time determining their soil types in order to plant the right varieties on the ideal site. This gives the vines the best possible chance to root itself within the ideal terroir. In order to nurture this terroir and the biodiversity around their vineyards, they look to mother nature and her natural indicators, adjusting their sustainable farming and winemaking practices in order to best express their soils and terroir through their grapes and wines.
Nature has adapted around the farm throughout the years. This is most prevalently seen by the return of the dragonfly population on the farm- a positive sign as a dragonfly is extremely sensitive to environmental changes. This highly adaptive creature symbolizes their future. They adapt when needed in pursuit of balance.
The flagship Acheulean Red and Chardonnay command the palate. Delight in old faithfuls – the Arenite Syrah, Tristone Cabernet Sauvignon and Silcrete Cinsault.
