The Drift “Moveable Feast” Red 2014

Wine of Origin: Overberg

moveable_feastWinemaker: Bruce Jack

Winery: The Drift

Background: Bruce Jack is a formidable figure in our local wine industry having being the founder of the highly successful International brand, Flagstone Wines, in 1998. Although he is still involved with the production of Flagstone wines he has other ventures which keeps this busy man out of mischief! Perhaps the most notable are the interesting and delightful wines he makes at his family’s farm outside Napier in the Western Cape. Producing a range of five wines the volume is small but the quality is unquestionable which means each vintage is highly sort after! Bruce hosted a dinner recently where he matched a few of The Drift wines to an excellent menu prepared by the team at The Butcher Shop and Grill in Mouille Point. The ultimate pairing on the evening was the fillet of beef with the Moveable Feast red. The wine is a blend of Syrah 36% Malbec 27% Tannat 14% Touriga Nacional 14% Barbera 9% all grown on specific soil types and slopes located on the farms own vineyard sites. After natural fermentation in open top fermenters the wine was transferred to 225litre barrels (10% new) for a period of 18 months.

Result: The deep velvet colour entices you to whiff the rich aromas of ripe plums with hints of dark chocolate. The palate offers creamy flavours of plum and raspberry with spicy nuances on the long finish.
