Blaauwklippen White Zinfandel 2015

white_zinWine of Origin: Stellenbosch

Cellarmaster: Rolf Zeitvogel

Background:  Blaauwklippen wine farm outside Stellenbosch first planted the variety Zinfandel in 1978 (Zinfandel is an exotic and unique red cultivar which originated on Croatia’s Dalmatian coast). Rolf Zeitvogel, Cellarmaster at Blaauwklippen, has over his 13 years at the farm developed this interesting variety into several guises from reds (Vineyard Selection and Single Vineyard Reserve) , a white Zinfandel and a Zinfandel Noble Late Harvest.

The Zinfandel White 2015 looks more like a Rose as it has this beautiful salmon pink colour obtained from the juice spending a short time with the dark pigment of the Zinfandel skin. After fermentation the wine spent time on the lees prior to bottling adding to its richness and complexity.

Result: The nose is complex with aromas of rose petal, strawberry and cherry. The aftertaste of pomegranate and berry fruits lingers in the mouth.

When to drink: Ideal wine to celebrate the start of autumn!

Drink with what: cherry tomato, feta and pomegranate salad.

Expect to pay: R125.00
