Lynx Viognier 2014

lynxWinery: Lynx Wines

Winemaker: Helgard van Schalkwyk

Cellarmaster: Dieter Sellmeyer

Region: Franschhoek

Background: After spending most of his working life as an engineer Dieter Sellmeyer started making wine when he bought Lynx wines at the age of 50!

He thought that his first vintage would be an experimental one just to see how well he could make wines from the farm.

The result was encouraging as he was rewarded with his first wines receiving over 4.5 stars in the Platter guide! His range is mostly made up of red wines but later he added a rose and a viognier, the latter receiving many significant awards.

50% of the 2014 Viognier was fermented in French Oak and the remaining in Stainless Steel tank and once fermentation had taken place the wine remained there for a further six months prior to final blending and bottling.

Result: The wine has subtle dried peach and floral aromas with a velvety smooth palate and bright acidity on the clean finish.

When to drink: Now till 2018

Drink with what: Creamy chicken and fish dishes. Also excellent with Sushi!

Expect to pay (prices may differ nationally): R114.00
