Savage `Follow the Line` Red 2014

savageWinery: Savage Wines

Winemaker: Duncan Savage

Region: Western Cape (from selected high altitude and maritime vineyards)

Background: Several years back, Duncan Savage, winemaker at Cape Point Vineyards, realised it was time to fulfil his lifelong dream which was to make a range of wines under his family name before he was 35! So in 2013 he launched his first wines, a white and a red, under his own label, Savage!

Produced in small quantities, the wines are sold out quickly from the farm, but can be found in selected wine merchants as well as on some premium wine lists around the country.

However, this month he launched two new wines to his range, a Syrah and a red blend called Follow the Line. The latter is particularly intriguing, especially the name!

It all started when Duncan became terribly lost while going for the first time to have a look at some Cinsault vineyards he was interested in. So he called the farmer for directions who just told him to “volg net die f*kken foon lyn”! He did just that and followed the line all the way to the farm!

Follow the Line 2014 is a hand selected blend of Cinsaut (58%), Grenache (21%) and Syrah (21%) and shows how each vineyard’s unique terroir has contributed to this superbly crafted wine.

Result: Bright ruby colour with enticing aromas of mulberry fruit guiding you to the spicy savoury palate packed with juicy black fruit flavour balanced with mineral finesse.

When to drink: Now till 2024

Drink with what: Perfect as a winter aperitif around the fire, but with spiced chicken kebabs on the barbecue it was complete!!

Expect to pay: R192.00
