Dombeya Chardonnay 2013

dombeya_chardonnayWine of Origin: Stellenbosch

Winemaker: Rianie Strydom

Background: Dombeya Wines is owned by Preston Haskell who, in 2002  bought the property which lies in the sought after terroir of Stellenbosch’s Golden Triangle.

In 2005 cellarmaster and winemaker, Rianie Strydom joined the team to head up wine operations and has over past vintages notched up numerous accolades both locally and overseas for her wines.

The Dombeya Chardonnay is a classically styled Chardonnay with an appreciable low alcohol of 13 percent (12.95 percent to be exact).

The grapes selected were all handpicked at four different stages which helps with creating different levels of flavours such as green apple and pear drops.

After fermentation, which took place in old 228l barrels, the wine spent a further 10 months in both first and second fill French oak.

The name Dombeya stems from the Dombeya tree of which you will find several scattered around their vineyards. The tree is particularly beautiful when in flower.

Result: An outstanding wine which has a pale straw green colour with delicate aromas of spanspek, lemon and peach. The palate is fresh and crisp with woven flavours of lime, spicy citrus fruit with a long satisfyingly dry finish.
