Domaine des Dieux Claudia Brut MCC 2009
Wine of Origin: Hemel en Aarde Ridge
Winery Location: Hemel en Aarde, Hermanus
Winemaker: Marc van Halderen
Background: Amorim Cork started its annual MCC Challenge 14 years ago which honours wine makers and producers of Cap Classique. This year saw a total of 101 entries from most of the Capes Cap Classique producers.
The 2014 overall winning wine, Domaine des Dieux Claudia Brut MCC 2009 is our number one choice for the week.
Domaine des Dieux is nestled beneath the highest mountain on the Hemel en Aarde Ridge near Hermanus and benefits from the cool climate and soils.
The farm’s first wines were bottled in 2006 and today they offer a selection of no less than six wines comprising whites, reds and two Cap Classiques.
Result: The Claudia Brut MCC 2009 is predominantly made from Chardonnay (90 percent) with Pinot Noir (10 percent). It has aromas of rich yeasty citrus fruit and offers vitality and richness on the palate with classic biscuity flavours.
When to drink: now until 2018
Drink with what: At the award luncheon held at the 12 Apostles we enjoyed it with roast breast of chicken with potato gnocchi, forest mushroom ragout, oven roasted shallots and hazelnut crumble. Also try with seafoods and sushi and saltier dishes.
