Krone Night Nectar 2011

krone_nectarWine of Origin: Western Cape

Location: Twee Jonge Gezellen Estate, Tulbagh

Winemaker: Rudiger Gretschel

Background: The House of Krone has an established track record of producing outstanding quality Method Cap Classique wines. The Krone Borealis Brut and Krone Rose Cuvee Brut have proved popular choices, vintage upon vintage, with bubbly lovers and for a very special occasion they offer their beautifully packaged non-vintage Nicolas Charles Krone Marque 1. This week they released their first demi sec Cap Classique, the Krone Night Nectar 2011, named in memory of the once practised Krone tradition of night harvesting. The Night Nectar, as with all the Krone Cap Classiques, is a blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, but in this case made in a slightly sweeter style.

Result: Having spent a considerable amount of time on the lees the wine offers lovely rich aromas of baked apple pie and brioche. On the palate the initial taste is of fresh crisp green apple which gently follows onto a mouth-filling creamy rich white pear flavour with a silky long finish.

When to drink: Now until 2017

Drink with what: A breakfast buffet with a selection of fruit, fois gras, cheeses, eggs benedict and smoked salmon.

Expect to pay: R120.00
