    • Rustenberg Roussanne 2011
Roussanne is a variety of the northern Rhone, and is most commonly found in blends with Marsanne. Roussanne is a difficult variety to grow and due to this there are more Marsanne vineyards, even though Roussanne produces the more elegant wines. The grape also tends to have a slightly higher acidity giving it the ability to age really well. There are very few examples of Roussanne in South Africa as there are in the first place very few Roussanne vineyards and most of the grapes are used in innovative Rhone-style blends. We love this wine for the purity of fruit and the special care taken to showcase the typical Roussanne flavours. Only 9% of the juice was fermenting in 2nd fill big Burgundian barrels for 2 months. It shows a great combination of ripeĀ 2 pineapple and peach flavours with fresh green apple and even a hint of caramel. The great combination of fresh flinty minerality and complex flavours makes this wine perfect for enjoying on its own or with light summer salads.
