The usual heat in the Cape over the picking season over the past couple of months, without much rain, has resulted in some speedy picking once the winemakers were happy with the correct phenolic ripeness and sugar levels of the grapes. Charles Hopkins from De Grendel in the Durbanville area seems pleased with the harvest thus far and especially with the Sauvignon Blanc which despite the two recent heat waves the vines managed to survive due to the retained moisture from the pre harvest rains late last year. Not all the red varieties have been harvested but the earlier ripening varieties which are now fermenting in the cellar are showing promise for an excellent vintage.

For our recipe this month Michael Olivier gives us his yummy Fillet of Beef in a Parcel – al Cartoccio. We have an interesting line up of new wines in our stores, along with excellent tastings from well known and newer estates. Please visit our for details on our daily tastings.

Vrede en Lust Wine Tasting Dinner at the Shangri-La Hotel
The luxurious Shangri-La Hotel, near Modimolle (Nylstroom) and Bela Bela (Warmbaths), is offering a delightful weekend with Vrede en Lust Wines on the 4th April 2014.

Friday Flavour Focus at Wine Concepts Newlands – March 2014
Our theme for our flavour focus this month is to celebrate our workhorse variety,
Chenin Blanc.

On the 14th from 16h00 – 18h00 we will have wines from Robusto, Teddy Hall, Bosmans, Tierhoek and Vrede en Lust.

On the 28th from 16h00 – 18h00 we will have wines from Doran, Rijks, Mooiplaas, Beaumont, Mullinieux and Kloof Street.

There is no charge so come and enjoy a glass or two before you buy at our discounted prices for the evening only!!
