The usual heat in the Cape over the harvesting season during the past couple of months, without much rain, has resulted in some speedy picking once the winemakers were happy with the correct phenolic ripeness and sugar levels of the grapes. Chatting to winemakers Bruwer Raats of Raats Family Wines and Jeff Grier of Villiera it seems that the wines that will be produced from the 2012 vintage will be a lot lower in alcohol, which is good news for consumers.
